Childbirth has always captivated me, and has grown into my life’s passion. I have always been in awe of the strength and love in the moments surrounding birth.
In 2013 my spouse and I got married, and I joined him in England, where he was stationed with the US Air Force. Within a few months, we were expecting our daughter, Rebecca. While at the hospital for a prenatal visit, I saw a sign in the elevator advertising a “Doula Speed Dating” event with a short description of what a doula was: “doulas provide physical, emotional, and informational support before, during, and just after birth”. I hired a lovely doula, Susan, who supported us throughout the pregnancy and birth, and later helped me navigate the process of becoming a doula myself. In 2017 we welcomed our son, Callum. Born at home with the support of my doula, Mary.
I began my training in 2014, and have been continually building on my education ever since. I have attended trainings with DONA International, Madriella Doula Network, Cambridgeshire Doulas, Supporting Every Birth, Healthy Children Project, and WRM. I completed full doula certifications through Madriella Doula Network and WRM, am a Certified Lactation Counselor, and hold current additional certifications in CPR and NRP. I plan to continue seeking continuing education as often as possible, with the long term goal to study midwifery.
I am experienced in supporting a variety of birthing situations, including home birth, hospital birth, VBAC, cesarean birth, midwifery care, high risk / high medical needs birth, medicated labors, and unmedicated labors.
During our time overseas, I helped lead a breastfeeding peer support group for military families. I have continued to study lactation through my experiences with that group, my own children, and my doula clients, as well as through books, continuing education courses, and other resources. For situations outside my experience and scope, I maintain close working relationships with a variety of local resources such as peer support groups, functional dentistry, massage therapy, mental health care providers, and chiropractic care.
I am truly passionate about my work, and I take my responsibility to serve and respect my clients very seriously. I am committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming space for all individuals and families.
You can call or text me to set up a consult. It’s free, no pressure to commit, just an opportunity for you to meet me, ask any questions you may have, and explore your options. I look forward to the opportunity to meet you.
